Latvian National Opera

The Latvian National Opera is the biggest and best musical theater in the country. Latvian National Opera is famous not only for its operas, but for its ballet troupe as well. Recognized as a living national treasure since its founding in 1918, Latvian National Opera at once became the center of Riga’s musical activity. Great masters, multinational personalities and generations of talent have molded the Latvian National Opera’s history. The State Puppet Theater

The State Puppet Theater is a wonderful world, created especially for children. Every evening the characters of the favorite fairy tales – Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Neznaika, Snow White and the seven Dwarfs, Beauty and Beast, and others – come to life at the stage of the theater. Again and again love gets over the viciousness and the evil is punished. The theater invites the spectators to live together with the characters through all their adventures, to enjoy splendid music and stage effects.
Russian Drama Theater

The oldest professional drama theater in Latvia is 120 years old. In 1883, a small troupe of sixteen actors under the leadership of E. Lavrov presented to the public play by Shpazhinsky “General’s wife”. At the beginning of the 20th century Drama Theater was considered among the best provincial theaters in Russia. It had become a true school of realism, where the realistic representation of life combined with theatricality. The theater doesn’t limit itself only to the genre of drama. Dialogue, music, dance, pantomime have already become an inseparable part of its spectaculars.

Nowadays the Daile Theate is one of the most successful theaters in the country. It can be proved not only by the popularity of the theater among Rigaers and guests of the city, but also by the numerous awards at different theatrical festivals.
Latvian National Theater

The Latvian National Theater is situated in one of the most beautiful buildings in Riga. It was built in 1899–1902 by the architect A. Reinberg. The facade is decorated with Riga’s coat of arms and the attributes of Russian Tzars. From 1940 to 1989 it was known as Drama Theater named after Upitis. In 1989, the theater was given back its original name. For eight decades, this grand theater preserves the traditions of Latvian drama school. Nowadays it is one of the biggest theaters in Latvia.
