Before you book that flight to Riga and realized your dream vacation, it is a must to know what month of the year will be the coldest or the warmest, this for the sole reason to enjoy your stay in the beautiful city to the fullest.

Riga’s position in the north of Europe can make the winter and even parts of spring and autumn bitingly chilly. Add to that weather that can change five times in a single day, and you’ve got to be prepared for everything. Of course, it is still recommended to check the weather forecast beforehand, but just because it says it’s going to be rainy and 10 degrees doesn’t mean the sun can’t come out midday and raise the temperature to a scorching 25 in a matter of minutes. Perhaps the trick to enjoying your time in Riga is to bring plenty of clothing that can be layered, an umbrella, and definitely a scarf, hat, and gloves along with a warm coat if travelling between October and May. Summers in Riga are the most pleasant, with temperatures sometimes reaching the 30s, perfect for a nice swim at the beach.

The climate of Riga is humid continental (Koppen Dfb). The coldest months are January and February, when the average temperature is −5 °C (23 °F) but temperatures as low as −20 °C (−4 °F) to −25 °C (−13 °F) can be observed almost every year on the coldest days. The proximity of the sea causes frequent autumn rains and fogs. Continuous snow cover may last eighty days. The summers in Riga are warm and humid with the average temperature of 18 °C (64 °F), while the temperature on the hottest days can exceed 30 °C (86 °F).
